Falcon Water Polo Club: Serving All of Solano County!

About Falcon Water Polo

Falcon Water Polo is a USA Water Polo club program that operates in Solano County. Our program exists to help train current high school aged players during the off-season and to teach the fundamentals and basic knowledge of the game to newcomers who are interested in the sport. Falcon Water Polo is open to any individual who wants to learn about the sport of water polo, develop new skills, or improve their current skill level. We strive to establish a fun, supportive and positive environment where players at all levels and ages can strengthen their skills and participate in local and regional competition. Although a large number of our athletes come from local high schools throughout Solano County, it should be noted that Falcon Water Polo is first and foremost a club program and is open to any individual who wishes to join.

Currently, our program is offered on a seasonal basis through the city of Fairfield during the summer and winter, with practices taking place at Fairfield High School. Each season is geared towards addressing the needs of the participants with an emphasis on instructional practices. Our practices typically focus on the fundamentals of the game, strategies and execution, as well as situational drills and scrimmages. During each season we also look to participate in scrimmages against other local teams and we regularly participate in tournaments hosted throughout Northern California.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the more frequently asked questions that we receive from parents and potential athletes that are interested in joining:

1. What is water polo?

Water polo is a team water sport. A team consists of six field players and one goalkeeper. The winner of the game is the team that scores the most goals. Although water polo is unique, it draws a lot of similarities from many sports including basketball, soccer, and hockey.

2. I don't really know how to swim that well. How much swimming experience is recommended to begin playing water polo?

While previous swimming experience is preferred, it isn't a requirement. We would generally like all beginners to be able to swim at least one lap of freestyle without stopping and/or touching the bottom of the pool, but that hasn't stopped us from accepting athletes who have little to zero swimming experience. We pride ourselves on having helped to teach many of our athletes to swim. If you feel that swimming ability is a concern for you, then by all means feel free to get in touch with the coaching staff to discuss the issue.

3. Do I have to wear a speedo?

Ahh, the dreaded speedo question. This is a big issue with many guys who feel uncomfortable with the idea of wearing one, and the answer is no. You do not have to wear a speedo, although it is highly recommended that you wear one because it enables a player to swim faster and offers less material for an opponent to grab when compared to standard swimming trunks. Most beginning players begin by wearing trunks and eventually switch to speedos, but the choice is always up to you.
